Top Dance Songs For Q1 Of 2008

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
According to Billboard, here are the Top 40 Dance songs for the first quarter of 2008. As the Dance chart never seems to have the same #1 from week to week, I find it a bit odd at the song which is #1 for the quarter. The song has never been #1 in any given week this year so far, having only peaked at #4 since January. I'm not sure if it hit #1 last year at all. However, the song has been the most consistent this year, having a spot in the Top 25 every week for the past 12 weeks.

Billboard doesn't chart any particular remix for each song on the chart. It just charts the official remixes, anywhere from 2 to 4+, in general. The official remixes can also consist of remixes from more than one DJ. Being that, that is why you won't see a remix name below, just the artist and song title.

OMG, how the mighty have fallen! Janet Jackson causes a MAJOR upset to the Top 10 this month debuting at #1!!

I am not entirely sure her debut has anything to do with it, but 4 songs that were in the Top 10 last month are now out of the Top 25 entirely. Those falling out of the Top 10 and taking a swim this month are:

Natasha Bedingfield/Sean Kingston - Love Like This (was #3 last month)
Rihanna - Breakin' Dishes (was #5 last month)
Celine Dion - Taking Chances (was #8 last month)
Paul Van Dyk/Rea Garvey - Let It Go (was #9 last month)

However, there are some songs that are hanging on by the skin of their teeth...

Ultra Nate - Give It All You Got (was #1 last month)
Mary J. Blige - Just Fine (was #2 last month)

Other songs to fall out of the Top 25 this month are:

Britney Spears - Gimme More
Nicole Scherzinger - Baby Love
Angie Stone/Betty Wright - Baby
The Spice Girls - Wannabe
Erika Jayne - Stars
Brian Anthony - WhatsItGonnaB
Leann Rimes - Nothing Better To Do
Billie Ray Martin - Undisco Me
Georgie Porgie - Lift Your Voices
Kimberley Locke - Band Of Gold

Now, let's go over my predictions from last month.

1. I said that Kristine W.'s "The Boss" would be #1... I wasn't far off! As you can see, she came in at #2.
2. I said that Janet's "Feedback" would debut in the Top 10... wow, not only did I get it right, but she debuted in the top spot! (jumping up and down for her)
3. I said that Celine's "Taking Chances" would fall into the 20's...and not only did she do that, but she fell into the 30's.
4. I said that Celine's "Shadow Of Love" would debut in the Top 25... .. completely pegged that wrong!

My predictions for April? Here they are...

1. Indina Menzel's "Gorgeous" will be #1
2. Taylor Dayne's "Beautiful" will be #2
3. Erin Hamilton's "The Flame" will be #3
4. Snoop Dogg's "Sensual Seduction" will be #4

Here is the chart for March. Lots of strong debuts, but as you can see from above... no one is safe. If you want your favorite song to do well on the charts, be sure to support CD sales, your favorite DJs and dance radio.

For the third month in a row, Flo Rida is #1. Having held on to the #1 spot on the Billboard Top 100 for a record 12 weeks this year, will anyone dethrone him? Oh yeah, baby... Usher. Pairing up with Young Jeezy, Usher debuted for the month at #27 with his hot new song, "Love In This Club." What? At #27 and posing a threat to Flo Rida? Yep. Even though Usher debuted low for the month, he has been #1 on Billboard Top 100 for three weeks now. The only reason he isn't #1 for March is that the single wasn't in the Top 100 for the first week of March. Keep an eye out for him. Flo Rida has some stiff competittion. Although, I'm not so sure that Flo Rida's sophmore single, "Elevator" can do the justice that his debut single has... even with the hot collaboration that Timbaland provides on the track. Historically, sophmore singles and albums do not do well for artists...though there are rare instances (keep reading).

How does this bode for the other artists? I'm not sure.

Chris Brown had a huge hit with "Kiss Kiss," but cannot seem to get past the #2 spot with his new single "With You." However, his duet with Jordin Sparks, "No Air," debuts strongly in the Top 10. Sophmore or Junior efforts, Chris Brown could very well take the top spot from Usher or Flo Rida, but I think it is unlikely to happen.

When putting together this list, I noticed how many duets/collaborative songs fell of the chart this month. In no particular order, songs to drop out of the Top 40 this month are:

Natasha Bedingfield/Sean Kingston - Love Like This
Britney Spears - Piece Of Me
Rihanna/Ne-Yo - Hate That I Love You
Plies/Akon - Hypnotized
Santana/Chad Kroeger - Into The Night
Trey Songz - Can't Help But Wait
Soulja Boy - Crank Dat
Baby Bash/T-Pain - Cyclone
Billy Ray/Miley Cyrus - Ready, Set, Don't Go
Paramore - Misery Business
Timbaland/Keri Hilson - The Way I Are
Brad Paisley - Letter To Me

I do not think that such collaborative songs are going to be a thing of the past though. Timbaland and OneRepublic are still going strong with "Apologize" and songs such as "Superstar," "Independent," and the previously mentioned "No Air," show no signs of slowing down.

So, here ya go, the Top 40 songs for the month of March. The chart is compiled using a variety of sources such as Billboard.com, AT40 and requests.
